Work Examples

Welcome to my portfolio of instructional design work focused on applied learning, decision-making, and performance in high-accountability environments.

The projects below demonstrate my approach to designing blended learning experiences that translate complex rules, policies, and expectations into practical, scenario-based training. My work emphasizes adult learning principles, clarity under pressure, and continuous improvement through data-informed iteration.

Note: Projects reflect a range of delivery environments, including LMS-based deployment and standalone hosting, depending on organizational infrastructure.

Articulate Storyline Project

Objective:

To design an interactive, scenario-based training module that prepares experienced referees for their first professional and semi-professional assignments as a 4th official, with a focus on applied decision-making and match-day responsibilities.

Description:
This self-paced module, built in Articulate Storyline, targets experienced referees transitioning into the 4th official role. It focuses on match-day expectations, communication responsibilities, and applied decision-making in professional environments, using realistic scenarios to prepare officials for live match conditions.

Process:

I was approached by a national-level referee organization to address a gap in referee education: the absence of structured training for officials entering the 4th official role beyond informal documents and local guidance.

I conducted a needs analysis based on match expectations, assessor feedback, and professional standards, then designed a scenario-based course using real match-day situations, photos, and expert input. The learning was structured around decision points referees encounter on game day, emphasizing clarity, confidence, and consistency under pressure.

Tools Used:
Articulate Storyline, Adobe Photoshop, Amazon Web Services

Key Achievements:
Developed and launched a first-of-its-kind, professional-grade training module
Collaborated with national-level experts to ensure accuracy and instructional value
Made the course publicly accessible to expand access to referee development

Designed applied scenarios that helped officials understand expectations before stepping onto the field for professional assignments.

Asynchronous Policy and Compliance Learning Redesign

Objective: Improve compliance outcomes by redesigning an asynchronous learning experience that clarifies policy intent, expectations, and responsibilities, setting organizations up for success before implementation.

Description: This project involved redesigning an existing compliance training into a concise, asynchronous eLearning module for director-level staff. The focus was on clearly communicating policy intent, required components, and implementation expectations to reduce misinterpretation and downstream compliance issues. This project involved converting an existing PowerPoint-based training into an interactive eLearning experience using Articulate Storyline, improving clarity, engagement, and usability without changing the underlying policy content.

Data-Driven Approach: While this learning was delivered outside of a traditional LMS environment, statewide non-compliance reports were used to identify common structural gaps and misinterpretations. These insights informed content prioritization, simplification of requirements, and emphasis on high-impact policy components most likely to affect compliance outcomes.

Tools Used: Articulate Storyline, PowerPoint

Key Achievements:

Simplified complex content to cater to a specific audience, enhancing clarity and relevance.
Utilized interactive elements and scenarios in Articulate Storyline to promote active learning and retention.
Designed assessments to gauge understanding and reinforce key concepts.

Instructor-Led Training on Policy Writing and Implementation

Objective: Equip district leaders with the knowledge and tools needed to consistently interpret, write, and implement compliant policies across local contexts.

Description: This instructor-led training was designed to support consistent interpretation and implementation of policy requirements across school districts. Using a federal policy manual as a foundation, the session combined direct instruction with guided activities that allowed participants to apply requirements to their own local contexts.

Needs Assessment: Analysis of statewide non-compliance reports identified recurring gaps in policy structure and implementation. These findings informed session design, activity selection, and emphasis areas to ensure the training addressed the most common real-world breakdowns.

Tools Used: PowerPoint, Word, Facilitator and Participant Worksheets

Key Features:

Hands-on activities that simulate real-world policy writing and implementation scenarios.

Detailed overview of federal and state regulatory requirements.

Provision of local resources and contacts to support compliant implementation.

Structured worksheet guiding participants through drafting the foundation of their own policy.

Impact: 99% of participants reported they were able to immediately apply the training content in their job responsibilities.

Internal Training on Applying AI Tools to Improve Workflow Efficiency

Objective: Enable staff to apply emerging AI tools to existing workflows in a practical, responsible way that improves efficiency without disrupting established processes.

Description: This facilitator-led training introduced staff to practical applications of AI tools within their existing roles. The session combined brief conceptual framing with guided hands-on exercises, allowing participants to experiment with AI on real tasks while receiving live support and guardrails from the facilitator.

Key Highlights:

- Guided hands-on lab where participants applied AI tools to real work tasks.

- On-the-spot facilitator support to address challenges and ensure appropriate use.

- Practical strategies for integrating AI tools into existing workflows.

- Overview of ChatGPT and its role as a productivity aid, not a replacement for expertise.

Impact: Training contributed to an estimated 30% reduction in time required to publish content, improving team efficiency without sacrificing quality.

Design Consideration: Emphasis was placed on learning how to evaluate and apply emerging tools thoughtfully, reinforcing that sound judgment and domain expertise remain central to performance.

Tools Used: PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams

Data-Informed Evaluation and Continuous Improvement

Tools Used: Word, Microsoft Forms, Excel, Excel Macros

Overview: This work demonstrates my approach to evaluating learning effectiveness using pre- and post-assessment data, learner feedback, and performance trends. The goal is not reporting for its own sake, but identifying gaps, validating learning design decisions, and iterating content to improve real-world performance.

Objective: To assess the impact of training programs and identify areas for improvement through a data-driven approach.

Evaluation Approach: Implemented consistent pre- and post-assessments to measure knowledge growth and identify persistent gaps. Assessment data was analyzed to flag questions with low improvement rates, indicating areas where content clarity, sequencing, or emphasis required adjustment.

Key Features:

Anonymity: Ensuring participant anonymity encourages honest feedback, leading to more accurate data.
Consistency: Using the same assessment for both pre and post evaluations provides a reliable measure of knowledge gained.
Gap Analysis: By comparing pre and post-assessment results, we can pinpoint specific areas where the training may have fallen short.
Continuous Improvement: The insights gained from the data analysis are used to refine the training content and inform trainers of areas that require more emphasis.

Objective: To present a comprehensive data analysis on training outcomes, assessment scores, and growth metrics to upper management, identifying key areas for improvement in employee knowledge retention and program effectiveness.

Description: Developed clear, visual summaries of training outcomes for leadership stakeholders, highlighting growth trends, risk areas, and recommended content adjustments to improve program effectiveness.

Key Features:

Data-Driven Insights: Comparison of pre- and post-assessment scores, growth analysis, and flagged areas for concern.
Evaluation of Training Programs: In-depth feedback from participants on session structure, delivery, and effectiveness.
Actionable Recommendations: Identification of opportunities to enhance training effectiveness based on participant feedback and performance metrics.
